Ammar undertook his undergraduate medical degree at Sydney University and Westmead Hospital, followed by an internship and residency at Gosford Hospital (NSW). He did his Basic Physician Training at Royal Hobart Hospital (TAS) followed by Advanced Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Prince of Wales Hospital (NSW).
Upon completion of his specialist training he worked in Tanzania for 10 months, training local staff in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy. This was followed by 18 months of post fellowship training at the Royal Free Hospital, London, well recognized as an international centre of excellence in Hepatology. Following this he completed a further 18 months at St Mark’s Hospital, London, which is a leader in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services.
He is now based mainly in Rockingham/Waikiki (40 minutes south of Perth, WA), consulting as a general Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the Waikiki Specialist Centre and performing endoscopic procedures at Waikiki Private Hospital. He has also started to consult at the Wexford Medical Centre (Murdoch) once a fortnight and perform endoscopic procedures at St John of God Hospital (Murdoch) on a Saturday, ideal for busy working people who find it difficult to take time off work during the week.
